My birthday went well! Gotta love the presents! When my brother Stephen came over on the 25th, Darla made a beeline for him. I think she only meant to sniff his feet, but he ran -with her in pursuit- and jumped on top of the futon sofa. When she followed, he snatched a magazine and placed it in front of his toes as a barrier. "Get her!!" he half-gasped, half-laughed. "She has serious anger management issues!!!"

Happy birthday to me!!! Darla grabbed a mouthful of kibble and deposited it on my pillow. Either she was seeking a new hiding place for her snacks or she knew what day it is and was giving me breakfast in bed.

Darla now has a computer obsession. She ran across my laptop during an unsupervised moment, and loved the experience so much that she tried to climb up my leg to reach the coffee table and repeat the performance. I took pity on her and hauled out my old 286 laptop for her to run over (unplugged, of course). Her weasel war dance was hysterical. I'm thinking of turning her on Bill Gates next.

Darla learned the hard way that it's not cool to get into the garbage. We have a small garbage bag hanging off of a cupboard knob, and the ferrets have pretty much learned to leave it alone. But Darla got adventurous this morning. As soon as I heard the crinkling of a mangled plastic bag I bolted into the kitchen; in time to see the White Terror bite a hole in the bottom of the bag and get a mouthful of coffee grinds. She skittered backward, drooling and gagging. Thankfully she didn't swallow any plastic, but she now has a healthy respect for that bag.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I have been seriously ill. But not Miss Darla- she's ben leaping around like there's no tomorrow. While I was coughing into my tissues and huddled in a bathrobe all weekend, she was 1) climbing onto the kitchen table 2) unplugging my laptop 3) beating up Jasper, who's three times her size. I wish I could bottle and reserve her energy.
