Darla (aka "Darla the Mouse" and "Little White Girl") joined our household in October 2002. She was adopted by me when she was seven weeks old: her previous owner had experienced allergic reactions when handling her, and contacted me when word went around the Ottawa ferret owner circles that I was seeking to buy or adopt an albino.

She quickly ingratiated herself with our other three ferrets. When Jasper, my deaf panda blaze (who has been 'alpha ferret' since nine year old Junior retired from the role due to age and advanced insulinoma) tried to scruff her and drag her across the living room floor, she wriggled out of his grasp and bit him on the nose. Her very demeanor suggested, "Try that again and you're in for more trouble than you can handle, buddy." She's the tiniest of the bunch, but is still bounding around, dooking, and playing even after the others have staggered off to their hammock. She has to be continually reminded that toe nipping needs to be left behind with kithood; even now, she rushes for every slippered foot that shuffles sleepily from a bedroom, and scarcely a morning goes by without someone yelling, "Ow!! Darla, no!!!" But she's a sweetie, albeit a determined one.

Darla can be reached at darla@albinoferret.org. She'll try her best to reply in a timely manner.

UPDATE: Darla passed away on September 12, 2007, and passed the torch on to her successor, Zeffie. He'll have his own page on here soon!
