There are a
couple of reasons why this weblog came into being. The primary objective
is to clear up some misconceptions about the albino ferret. I actually
came across one pet store that refused to carry them because, in
the manager's words, "the white ones bite more."
One vet told me, "They're genetically weaker, they don't
seem to live as long as the sables." Granted, this particular
incident took place ten years ago, before the ferret truly came
into its own as a pet, but still. Thank God there are those of us
who not only know better, but cherish the albino as their favorite
ferret color.
The second reason
is more personal. My first ferret, Perri, was a pink-eyed,
creamy-coated sweetheart who was my constant companion from April
1989 until adrenal disease took him from me in 1994. He is still
missed. Please visit his section on this
weblog to learn more about him and why I want to make him proud
of me.
These days,
my pride and joy is a one pound, milky spitfire named Darla,
whom I adopted in October 2002. She's my existing inspiration for
this weblog- but she also inspires me to keep the treat jar stocked,
let her out three times a day, and keep my slippers on at all times-
or else. She's a little monkey- but I wouldn't have her any other
way. She's got her own section on this
website as well.
Please note
that because this is a weblog, we link to outside material instead
of reproducing it onsite. As you browse through the archives, you
may encounter broken links, which means that the original article
was removed.
The photos on
this site have come from various sources. The beautiful image on
the introduction is a replica of a painting by Scottish wildlife
artist Roger Lee. Other pictures are reproductions of ferrets once
up for adoption at the Ferret Rescue Society of Ottawa (see links),
or sent to me by readers of this weblog.
